Lord Murugan
Lord Muruga or Murugan is a popular South Indian Hindu God and is believed to be the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Lord Muruga is also known by the names Kartikeya, Skanda, Guha and Subramanya. He is the God of War and Victory and is the most popular deity of the Tamil land. The other son of Shiva and Parvati- Lord Ganesha is the brother of Lord Murugan.
Scriptures always portray Lord Murugan with his Vel, the divine spear or lance that he carries and His mount on the peacock. He has a golden body and six heads denoting His virtues.
He was born to end the evil deeds of the demon brothers Surapadman, Simhamukha and Tarakasur. His six most important shrines in India are the Arupadaiveedu temples, located in Tamil Nadu, from where He continues to shed His divine light on His devotees.
